Photographers across the world have waited with baited breath for the time Canon would announce their next flagship camera and that moment has finally arrived. Canon Inc. lifted the covers of the EOS 5D Mark III at a press event this morning.
In a clear attempt to downplay any 'megapixel war' with Nikon and its '36-megapixel D800', the 5D Mark III bears a 22-megapixel sensor, a small increment from the 21megapixel predecessor. Is there anything new in the 5D Mark III that makes it a worthwhile upgrade? Let's find out.
Just ahead of its expected announcement in Shanghai tomorrow, March 2nd, full specifications and details regarding Canon's highly anticipated EOS 5D Mark III have leaked. A new post on Canon Rumors  has outed the full specs of the camera, new images of the camera which are presumed to be the official Canon images and information on related 5D3 accessories.
In addition to the already leaked 22 megapixel sensor, the 5D Mark III is now expected to have significantly improved high-ISO performance due to the the expanded native ISO range of 100-25600 (which is expandable up to 104200). Other high performance features that are newcomers to the 5D series include a 61 point (41 cross-type points) high-density reticular auto-focus system, improved durability and weather sealing, dual card slots (CF + SD) a new HDR mode and more.
You can view the entire set of leaked Canon 5D Mark III specs here in our camera database. Though we expect the specifications leaked by Canon Rumors to be accurate, these are still considered preliminary. Missing specifications will be updated tomorrow after the expected announcement.
Follow the Canon Rumors link above to view the original post and to see more photos or learn about the other products and accessories expected to be announced along with the 5D Mk III.
The official announcement is expected to happen around 11pm EST today for those of you in the US (noon, March 2nd in Shanghai). Check back regularly today and tomorrow as we'll you with further details on the situation as it progresses.
